Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie - Anime Review

As I’m a fan of The Ghost in the Shell anime franchise, I thought that this action/sci-fi anime was solid. I had no issue with the runtime of this movie, which clocked in at one hundred minutes. This movie is a sequel to the four-part OVA series Ghost in the Shell: Arise. The plot of this movie deals with the prime minister of Japan being assassinated by a mysterious cyborg, and Major Motoko Kusanagi is the prime suspect. The plot also has Motoko’s Kusanagi’s collogues set out to find the true nature of the murder, and clear Motoko’s name. I thought that the character designs and mecha of this installment of the Ghost in the Shell I.P is interesting to me. I don’t hate or love the new character designs of Ghost in the Shell: Arise. As this is a Ghost in the Shell project, it’s up to Production I.G to deliver on the animation of this movie, and Production I.G deliver visually, IMO. This movie features crispy 2D and 3DCG animation and the music by Cornelius, sets the mood of this movie. As this is Ghost in the Shell, there’s plenty of hacking, action and an interesting plot, IMO. The main villain of this movie is an individual named Fire Starter. I thought that this movie was average at best, though I understand that Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex would have liked Yoko Kanno to reprise her role as music composer, for Ghost in the Shell: Arise installment of this I.P. While watching this movie, I wanted a thick plot like in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex from this movie, but I had to remind myself that there are different people working on this I.P, with different results. At the end of this movie, there is a post credit scene with Section 9 watching the cherry blossoms bloom.
